Welcome to the Rogersville Playhouse

Rogersville Playhouse is kicking off the summer fun with a great musical for all ages with Seussical: the musical! by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Based on the works of Dr. Seuss, this fun for all ages musical production comes to life as we join our feline friend, The Cat in the Hat as he escorts Jojo, an ordinary boy and Who, through his own imagination – opening his mind to find the “thinks” he can find.

Seuss’s world of colorful characters and magical journeys are brought to life as we follow Jojo into the Jungle of Nool on to McElligot’s Pool and that’s only the beginning. Along the way, we meet our favorite Seuss friends – Horton the Elephant, Mayzie Le Bird, Gertrude McFuzz, Sour Kangaroo, our friends from Whoville, the Wickersham brothers, The Grinch and many more.

“The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge,” says Musical Theatre International. “--not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant, in a story that makes you laugh and cry.”

Through stories of discovery, amazement, loneliness, love, and second chancesSeussical the Musical reminds its audience to let go of fear and trust that even the “smallest of small” can lead to dreams “beyond the sky”.

Seussical the Musical has gone the distance in more ways than one. This "A-mayz-ing"cast comes from all over the region. Seussical welcomes an all star cast with some veterans to the show and some first time theatre performers: Mariah Brown, Tuesday Brown, Lora Cardenas, Josh Clark, Julie Clark, Karley Dobbs, Kaitlyn Hornbeck, Erin Lawson, Brandon Linkous, Taylor Mathes, Emma Millard, Neely Millard, Olivia Morrell, Lori Mullins, Christy Owenby, Josh Owenby, Kasi Russell, and Tatum Spears. The production is directed by Kathleen Buttolph. Musical Direction by Nicole Wood. The production’s Choreography Consultant and Assistant is April Albright of You Should Be Dancing in Rogersville.

Being new to the area, I was so excited to see that Rogersville has such a thriving Playhouse with great leadership from the theatre’s Board and Artistic Director, Chris Rhoton.
